Description

This Colt 1860 Army percussion revolver, manufactured in 1863, is a classic Civil War-era sidearm and one of the most widely used handguns of the period. This example features all matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, backstrap, barrel, cylinder, cylinder pin, and wedge. Built with an 8-inch round barrel, rebated cylinder, and brass trigger guard, it is also cut for a shoulder stock—an option favored by cavalry troops. Military inspector marks are present, including “H” on the backstrap and “H” and “L” on the cylinder.

The revolver wears a smooth blue-brown patina throughout, with traces of original blue on the loading lever and faint frame colors now faded to grey. The cylinder retains its original nipples, though safety pins are worn away, and the cylinder scene is no longer visible. One-piece walnut grips remain solid and attractive, showing old plug repairs to the bottoms. Mechanically, the revolver indexes and locks up properly, and the bore retains strong rifling with frosted grooves.

This is a strong representative example of a battle-proven sidearm from America’s Civil War. Offered in a fitted display case, it would be a fine addition to any antique arms collection.
