Description
This Springfield Armory U.S. M1 Garand in .30-06 Springfield is a classic American service rifle with strong collector and range appeal. The receiver is marked “U.S. Rifle Cal. .30 M1 Springfield Armory” with serial number 2620052, placing it in the approximate February 1944 Springfield Armory production range based on National Park Service serial data.
The barrel is marked SA 2-51, indicating a Springfield Armory barrel dated February 1951. This fits the common history of M1 Garands being rebuilt, repaired, refinished, or rebarreled during postwar service life. CMP notes that most M1 rifles were rebuilt or repaired at least once, and all-original examples are much less common.
Condition appears good to very good overall, with attractive walnut-style furniture, honest handling marks, parkerized metal finish, adjustable rear aperture sight, protected front sight, and green web sling. With reported 2.5 muzzle and 3 throat readings, this is a very appealing example for the buyer who wants a shootable, historically interesting Springfield Garand rather than a wall-hanger.
