Description
This Colt Government Model is the 2nd Battle of the Marne World War I Commemorative, chambered in .45 ACP and built in the traditional full-size 1911 configuration. It was part of Colt’s four-model WWI commemorative series honoring major American engagements, following the Chateau-Thierry and Belleau Wood editions. Period literature identifies the Second Battle of the Marne edition as the third model in the series. GUNS Magazine
The pistol features a deep polished blue finish with detailed commemorative battle artwork along the slide. Its distinctive light-colored French Holly grips carry a commemorative medallion and Second Battle of the Marne plaque, creating one of the most recognizable appearances in Colt’s commemorative lineup. Period advertising specifically describes the highly blued finish, battle engraving, and French Holly stocks used on this edition. GUNS Magazine
Serial 4772-M2 carries the appropriate M2 suffix associated with the Second Battle of the Marne edition. Based on the photographs, the pistol presents in very good overall condition with a strong polished finish and attractive commemorative details. No original presentation case is shown with this example.
