Description
This Harrington & Richardson U.S. Model 1873 Cavalry Model is a handsome reproduction of the famous Springfield Trapdoor cavalry carbine, chambered in .45-70 Government. It combines the distinctive hinged-breech Trapdoor action with a compact carbine-length configuration, polished walnut stock and deep blued metalwork.
The markings visible in the photographs include “U.S. Model 1873 Cal. 45-70 Govt.”, “H&R”, “Cavalry Model,”and “Harrington & Richardson, Inc., Worcester, Mass. Made in U.S.A.” The lockplate carries the traditional U.S. Springfield eagle motif. It also has the period-style saddle ring and leather thong, ladder-style rear sight and fixed front sight that give these H&R reproductions their classic military appearance.
This example is in very good overall condition, with particularly attractive wood and strong metal finish. There are only minor handling marks visible in the photographs. For collectors who appreciate historic American military designs but want a later-production example, the H&R Model 1873 is an attractive and increasingly collectible option.
